I landed in Second Life back in 2004. At the time, there was not much of a D/s lifestyle to be found. If you had control issues like me, you were Gorean. That was it.
I was searching for where I fit in, but it seemed if I wanted to be a Dominant in SL I had to have two things:
A title floating over my head announcing I was a Dom.
Leather pants.
Neither worked for me. The title felt obnoxious. After all, doesn’t the saying go, a lion doesn’t need to tell you he’s a lion? And the pants… meh. I’m a country boy in blue jeans, not a leather and vest biker. Nothing wrong with that look for those who want it, but I didn’t want to cosplay a Harley I didn’t own. I just wanted to tie a girl up and have some fun.
My first “relationship” with a submissive in SL? On our second date, she greeted me with a gift: leather pants. I hated them. But my 23-year-old brain thought, well, if this is what it takes to get a taste of kink here, fine, sign me up. That relationship did not last, and neither did the pants.
It was three years later when I opened Darkheat, determined to focus on D/s education and build a healthier community. Since then, Darkheat has been around since 2007, and I have never worn leather again.
Because here is the truth: being Dominant comes in all shapes, sizes, and fabrics. And as a man who hates, no, despises shopping, I figured why not make my own? Clothes I actually want to wear. Shirts with my attitude in my style, not someone else’s costume.
So in 2025, Grumpwear was born.
Grumpwear is simple. It is an attitude. It does not care about flashy. It is personality with a dash of fuck off. Because I am not that 23-year-old anymore. I am middle-aged, a little grumpy, a little growly, and I have come full circle.
Grumpy is good.
